Tristan Ramjohn: #LMMAlumni Work Experience Blog

As part of the #LMMAlumni programme, students are offered work experience in the LMM offices. The placement includes answering the phones, assisting the learning team and taking over the LMM social media channels. Tristan Ramjohn, who has been with LMM for almost 11 years, took up the work experience placement this summer.
I am a 16 year old by the name of Tristan Ramjohn who attended Ashmole Primary school, where I took up the violin. The 6 years I spent at Ashmole learning the violin was all provided by LMM, this gave me a great start to what has now become a passion of mine. After primary school, I continued playing the violin in secondary school. This also included music on Saturdays where I attended the Royal College of Music. The journey I have had with LMM has been full of incredible events, my favourite being the graduation ceremony which was held at the end of year 6 in Wigmore Hall. Yes it may have been sad saying goodbye to my past teachers but the performances that we did made me and everyone proud of what we had accomplished and in some way it made our journey worthwhile.

 

Earliest memories consist of playing the spider race game with classmates. Rules were simple but the technique was another thing, the aim was to spider crawl up and down your bow mainly using the strength of your fingers but keeping a respectable bow hold.
My normal days are pretty much the same as everyone else except I am still participating in music on Saturday as well as the passion for performing. If I had to give advice to someone who wanted to learn the violin then I guess I would tell them what everyone says, practice makes perfect and that applies to everything, but practice requires determination and grit to keep going. Hard work will always beat talent if talent does not work hard. In the future I would love to continue with music especially travelling in different countries and performing in front of a large crowd. I always wanted to travel – to perform as well would a perfect match. If I could go back and give advice to myself when I started the programme, I would tell myself to keep at it because what I am doing is worth it and its going to be a big part of my life.

That’s just the basic stuff about me, I have also been doing work experience with LMM. Sooo let me say what happened.
Day 1 getting the basics down, answering the phone as well as other bits and bobs in the office. I also had meetings which were scattered across the week with people from all the fields which make up LMM. The task of answering the phone was quite daunting at first but throughout the week it got easier.
Day 2 is when my experience went further than the office. I visited St Barnabas Primary School where I helped out getting the children to do surveys about how music makes them feel. After that it was back to the office for a continuation of one of the four projects which I was set at the beginning of the week. This was the preparation of my social media tweets.
After the completion of this task I posted the tweets on Instagram, twitter and Facebook on day 3, carrying on the rest of the day consisted mainly of office work which consisted of answering the phone as well as assisting Mr Evans in the transferral of survey data into computer files. I will not lie that was a very long and tedious job but that is work for you!
Day 4 was the big day, it was the Pathways Celebration! I am writing this on day 5 so I guess I cannot tell you how the day went but it has not included much apart from writing this and in my opinion what a lovely way to end a week of work experience with a final review on my time. Thanks to the LMM team I have experience and for that I am grateful!
