An inspirational visit from the Harlem Quartet

We were so happy to welcome back the Harlem Quartet in February, long-time supporters of London Music Masters. The ensemble have visited a number of our schools in the past, working with and performing in front of hundreds of our young musicians. So when we asked ourselves who they should visit and work with at St Mary’s Bryanston Square Primary School the answer was simple. All of them!
All 58 violinists and cellists in Year 1-3 (aged 5-8) at the school got the chance to work with this incredible and lively ensemble, following a whole school assembly where every student at the school had a chance to hear them perform. The eager young musicians worked on their ensemble skills, including the rare opportunity for our cellists and violinists to play together. There were so many delighted faces as the Harlem Quartet improvised along with the students’ own repertoire, bringing their music to life.
At London Music Masters, we believe that young musicians and incredible artists working together is a mutually beneficial experience. Breaking down the concert hall boundaries that are so often present with classical music enables our artists and communities to inspire and learn from each other. Music belongs to everyone and the chance to make music and have fun together is incredibly important.
These workshops overran into school break time because we simply couldn’t pull the students away. That says it all.
