We were delighted to collaborate with the British Film Institute as part of the BFI London Film Festival for the fourth year this October. During a series of composition workshops our Year 4 violinists and cellists from Ashmole, Jessop, Jubilee, St Barnabas and St Mary’s explored what it is like to make music for film.
“My favourite thing was that we got to make songs on our violin. I learned that you don’t need music.” explained one of the students. Along with workshop leader Beth Higham-Edwards and violinists Doug Harrison and Naomi Burrell, the young musicians discovered how they could use different musical sounds and instruments to convey different moods to match the action on screen. “I enjoyed learning how to do new things on my cello and meeting new people”, said another child at Jessop.
The musicians joined forces at the BFI Southbank on Monday 7^th October, combining their newly composed film music at a very special event. London Music Masters believes that being a well-rounded musician means engaging with creative music making, such as composition, improvisation and performance from a young age. This is what makes this project such an excellent and all-encompassing creative event. We can’t wait for next year!
