Rayna Ferner studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music, where she gained her BMus in Performance and LRAM teaching diploma, with viola as a second study. As a freelance violinist, she has enjoyed a wide-ranging career in chamber, orchestral and contemporary work, which includes recording Mica Levi’s Oscar-nominated soundtrack to Jackie and playing with artists such as Emeli Sande, Clean Bandit, Elbow, Kae Tempest, Bonobo and Mercury Prize winner Sampha.

Rayna has taught with Music Masters since 2010, working across roles including Lead Tutor and Mentor. She is a trained Colourstrings teacher and draws on a range of methods to create engaging, playful sessions that support musical development from the very start. She is deeply committed to high-quality group teaching and widening access to music education.

Rayna is the founder of Mini Music East, an organisation that provides free musicianship lessons to over 130 children a week in partnership with schools and nurseries across Newham. With a strong belief in music as a way of supporting perinatal mental health, Rayna also provides groups for parents and babies in collaboration with Parents in Mind and Newham Nurture. Born in Canada, she now lives in East London with her husband and two daughters.
