The Robey Artist
In 2020, The Robey Artist was announced as part of a new partnership with YCAT (Young Classical Artist Trust).
The Robey Artist represents exceptional performers from backgrounds currently under-represented in classical music, and they undertake an ambassadorial role with Music Masters, delivering workshops and engaging with our young musicians across London to inspire their musical education.
Nathan Amaral 2025-2027
Brazilian violinist, Nathan Amaral, has earned a reputation in South America, USA and Europe for being a “versatile, charismatic violinist with a natural musical understanding” (Liza Ferschtman). First Prize winner of the 27th Sphinx Competition Classic FM ‘Rising Star’ 2024 and YCAT-Music Masters Robey Artist, Nathan frequently performs across the globe as both a soloist and chamber musician, while also continuing to support and teach young musicians from difficult backgrounds in his native Brazil through his own festival ‘Week of Musical Integration’ (Festival SIM).
Sterling Elliot 2023 – 2025
Sterling Elliott has been named as the next Robey Artist, a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and the winner of the Senior Division of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition. He was recently selected by The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for its Bowers Program, a three-year residency for exceptionally talented young artists. Sterling has performed with major orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Jordan Bak 2021 – 2023
Award-winning Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak has achieved international acclaim as a trailblazing artist, praised for his radiant stage presence, dynamic interpretations, and fearless power. Bak has appeared as soloist with such orchestras as Sarasota Orchestra, London Mozart Players, New York Classical Players, Juilliard Orchestra and Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra among others.
Randall Goosby 2020 – 2021
American violinist Randall Goosby is acclaimed for the sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship alongside his determination to make music more inclusive and accessible, as well as bringing the music of under-represented composers to light. Randall Goosby has performed with orchestras across the United States including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Nashville Symphony and New World Symphony.
The work and experience that these amazing young artists gain from being the Robey Artists with YCAT and Music Masters is really invaluable. Whilst their international performing careers are growing from strength to stretch, working so closely with the Music masters learners, inspiring them, finding new ways to communicate and share their musical experiences, provides the artists with crucial skills that will support them right through their professional lives.
Working with Jordan Bak over the past two years has been brilliant. It’s given our Pathways students the opportunity to work closely with a fantastic musician who they first watched perform on stage in wonderful venues like Wigmore Hall, before getting to know them on a more personal, musical level. Above all, the students came away with the inspiration and enthusiasm that stems from feeling as though they have befriended a professional artist, and the confidence that comes with this!
Jordan was amazing. He was mind-blowing and definitely warmed my heart.”
