Music Masters at the National Gallery

As part of a new creative partnership with the National Gallery, our Pathways students have become Musicians in Residence at the Gallery. This is a ground-breaking opportunity for young instrumentalists from underrepresented backgrounds to respond to the astonishing collections at The Gallery and help shape the role into the future.

Last year, the students worked with workshop leader Tara Franks and Robey Artist Jordan Bak through a series of projects, responding musically to images. Taking inspiration from paintings in the National Gallery collection they created their own pieces of music. Watch the film to learn more about this exciting project.

On 17th June 2022, the Pathways students performed their original compositions in front of friends and family at the gallery in their end of year performance, which you can see in all its glory here.

Visit The National Gallery website to find out more about the collection that inspired the music.

Summer on the square

This summer, some of our Pathways musicians’ original compositions are being featured in the National Gallery’s Summer on the Square Festival, where visitors can listen to the music and read quotes from some of our young musicians.
