About the Programme
Musicians of Change (PGCEi) is a year-long programme for musicians committed to transforming music education. We nurture and build our participants’ ability to deliver excellent, inclusive group instrumental teaching that reflects the diversity of society, while championing the musical lives and futures of young people in schools across the UK.
Musicians of Change provides students with a broad range of professional, practical and academic experiences supported by a world-leading team, delivered in partnership between the award-winning music education charity Music Masters and Birmingham City University’s (BCU) College of Education and Social Work. Students will gain an internationally recognised level 7 qualification and teaching certificate: PGCEi in Group Instrument Learning *.

Music educators of any instrument teachable in groups (whole class ensemble and small groups) in Primary, Secondary and community settings.

What skills and experience do you need?
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent level 6 qualification
- Performance level of above Grade 8 or equivalent
- Current experience in teaching or community music leadership experience
Level 6 qualifications are:
- Degree apprenticeship
- Degree with honours
- Graduate certificate
- Graduate diploma
- Level 6 award
- Level 6 certificate
- Level 6 diploma
- Level 6 NVQ

* This qualification does not automatically include Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), although it can prepare students for the Assessment Only Route, an additional qualification offered at Birmingham City University, providing all criteria for accessing this route are met.
